| Females do the majority of the hunting in any lion pride. After the long afternoon naps, lionesses spend a good amount of time bonding with each other by licking each other's faces and rubbing their heads together. This is invariably a pre-hunting ritual when partnership and trust is reinforced as these cats take on large and dangerous prey. This was my first sighting of a wild lion pride and I have a new found respect for wildlife photographers who manage to get those perfect shots in the wild when your every movement and behavior is constrained by the rules of the jungle. There was just no way I could avoid the grass in front of these animals but such is life in the wild. |
