A young adult (not sure male or female) took a stroll past our landrover following his afternoon nap before going back to the pride and laze around some more. Ten members (three lionesses and seven young adults) of the Selinda pride had crossed over the Savuti channel and come to the Duma Tau camp area. As the water levels in the channel rose, the pride was forced to extend its stay, given its dislike for water. The seven young adults were in grave danger given that two large local male lions were on the prowl and if they crossed paths, the visiting pride would invariably be attacked and the young adults killed. These are times when a pride needs the adult males the most, their primary role being to defend against attacks from other males who are always looking to take over a pride, kill the cubs and reproduce with the females again. The Selinda pride was well aware of the looming danger; the ten members all hung out close to each other and moved as a group, the younger ones first and the adult females behind them. As we neared the group, this one probably got up to see what it was and sensing no danger from a landrover got back to sleep.
