Chacma Baboons are one of the largest and heaviest of baboon species. Unlike other baboons of the north (Guinea, Hamadryas), the Chacma males do not have a mane and have longish, pointed face. These guys dominate the trees of South Africa and Botswana, hunted only by men and leopards, although not as commonly by the latter. All baboon species live in social hierarchical structures, however the Chacma Baboon is unique in that neither males or females get along with members of the same sex; the strongest bonds are formed between males and females. Staring at a baboon in the eye is taken as a threat and will lead to them staring back before they start displaying their teeth and scream. This one just posed for the picture and disappeared behind the bushes. It probably saw a reflection of itself on the big lens and wasnt sure what it was :)
