Facade detail of the Celcus Library at the Roman ruins of Ephesus, a 3000 year old city built in the Ionian period. Ephesus is the second most popular destination in Turkey after Istanbul and is easily accessible by sea (port of Kusadasi) and a 65km drive from Izmir. These ruins are carefully preserved and are some of the finest examples of architecture from that period outside of Italy and Greece.
