| All the Hawaiian islands are exposed to very strong northeastern trade winds from the Pacific, which means the north and east coasts in general are subject to heavy rainfall. The Hamakua coastline (on Big Island's northern shore) is full of lush green rain forests, pools, waterfalls and exotic tropical plants and flowers. The stream water over the centuries has cut through ash and lava rock underneath this thick carpet of green giving birth to the 450 ft tall Akaka Falls. This was an overcast day, allowing me to go for a long exposure on the falls and also bringing out that saturated green on the foliage. I do feel you are completely missing the sense of scale in this image that I had experienced standing there but still wanted to share this, hope you get a good enough idea.
